Is Croatia cheap in 2026?

Croatia is not a cheap destination anymore in the most popular coastal areas. Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split and Istria can be expensive in July and August. Travellers who visit in May, June, September or October usually get better value.

How to reduce your Croatia travel cost

Stay outside the most central old-town areas, book accommodation early, compare ferry and transfer prices, avoid driving into expensive parking zones and use bakeries or supermarkets for some meals. The biggest savings usually come from accommodation timing and destination choice.

Best value destinations

Zadar, Zagreb and some inland destinations are usually better value than Dubrovnik and Hvar. Split can be good value if you avoid the most tourist-heavy areas and use it as a base for ferries and day trips.
